Jumali Katani

Born in Singapore in 1967. After high school he worked temporarily as a cleaner. Then with the help of his sister he attended Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts; obtained a diploma in Applied Arts with flying colours. 

He is always creating opportunities for himself. He worked once for 5 years in a company as an illustrator before he went solo as an illustrator in 1997. 

He set up his mini guitar workshop in September 2025 at home and named his creation Rugged Monster. Rugged Monster is born to be different from its competitors - rugged yet charming.

He is not a guitar maker. He is a person who is afraid of machines - mechanophobia.  He buys stuff online and builds guitars incorporating his artistic feel into his creation. Each guitar is then sent to a luthier nearby his home primarily for professional setups to improve playability. In his opinion if a guitar look good, sound good and playable smoothly - the rest is history.

In 2023 he obtained a Malaysian citizenship and is residing in Johore, Malaysia. Until today his passion for guitar building is still strong.
